Heating things up

The Haunt gods are definitely not making this build easy by sending us a heat wave! My heart truely goes out to the carpenters right now as they work their butts off in the open sun with little or no shade lifting heavy walls and all with such great spirits! I truely adore the carpenters. They work hard and are so much fun to be around. I know I've had my share of working in this heat too, and actually my entire day was spent in it today, but they truely have cajones for being able to work EVERY SINGLE DAY in it! And its not just the carpenters.. everyone in lighting, paint and me and my fellow props crew are braving the heat to put this years haunt together. So when you go through the mazes this year, take a second to appreciate all of the pools of sweat and hard work that went into making them. I wish I could convey with words what a number this heat is doing on all of us. I think I've lost five pounds just in sweat today. It's all worth it though. I love this job because after the hard work is done every day I can step back and say to myself, "Wow.. I did THAT? COOL!" It's amazing being able to look back and see more walls added to a maze or a room going from an empty box into an actual scene ready and waiting for monsters to fill it. I'm really excited for you all to see what this years haunt is going to be like. Oh... and if anyone steals or breaks anything, know that I'm coming after you with a bucket of sweat to pour on your head because that's probably how much sweat it took to make that prop! bwahahahaha. :-D

Mask Making

On Sunday some friends and I got casted for our mask making class. It was so much fun! I learned a lot that I know I'll definitely be able to use at work. Here's some pix to enjoy!

Haunt Build Begins

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the Haunt Build. The lumber is stacked and ready to be mutated into mazes and I am ready to be made into a prop maker. Some of the new crew members come in tomorrow as well. I'm excited that Haunt build is starting, but a little nervous too. It's going to be a lot of hard work, sweat, and blood (which I have already shed!). Tension will build in the final weeks before Haunt and I'm sure many will die in the process. But loss of life and sanity is something we are willing to sacrifice for the cause.. of scariness and making boys scream like little prepubescent girls. It's what we live for. Sleep? BAH! Who needs sleep. Food? Psh.. food is for amateurs. As long as our pirate flag flaps in the breeze, we shall not stop! Ahah! Here we go!

*Note: For the kiddies at home, THIS is why caffiene can be bad for you.

Prepping for Props

Well as of Friday, I am officially back on props. It was fun helping out on paint for a while, but I'm really excited to be learning new things. This will be my first Haunt build on props and it is going to be fruestrating and difficult, and I'll probably want to sock people as it gets closer to Haunt, but it will all be worth it. :-D Based on Cameron's advice, I took his shopping list to Home Depot and picked up some props crew necessities:

- Flashlight
- Wire cutters
- Sheers
- Box cutters
- Multitool

And I already have my screw gun and tool belt. Ohhhhhh I am so ready.

I picked up a copy of "The Stage Craft Handbook" today as well. I'll gloss through that before Wednesday so I have a fuzzy idea of what I've gotten myself into. lol.

Also... I have two more drops to make on monday. BAH! I'm going to drown in fabric!! *hides*
